Don’t Take Raja to School is the true story of a little girl, Jade who loses her beloved stuffed tiger, Raja in kindergarten. Her parents tell her not to take him to school but she begs and begs until they give in. When Raja goes missing, Jade is sad and she searches for him. Every year the school has a carnival with a stuffed animal room. For every single year that Jade attends the school, she searches for Raja. It is not until her last year in sixth grade that she sees a woman walking with Raja in her hand. Jade offers to pay her twenty dollars but the woman is kind and gives him to Jade. It is the same stuffed animal she had lost so many years ago. Now that Jade is big, she no longer plays with Raja but Jade’s little sister now wants to take Raja to school. No, they all tell her. Don’t take Raja to school. This story targets preschoolers and school age children, from ages four to eight. The message is that if you take your toys to school, they might go missing and you might not see them again. Jade happened to be very lucky. This story mentions that Jade’s parents are divorced and Jade has a new daddy, but it does not delve any deeper than this.
